Welcome to what is the humble beginnings of the Camera Club of Eagle. Eagle is quickly becoming a center for arts in Southwestern Idaho. As the population of Eagle grows, so has the number of photographers in the area. The inspiration for the club came from a photo shoot that took place the other night, where one gracious photographer helped another and learning took place.
We have secured meeting space for our first meeting to be at Handmade Too! This beautiful new building in downtown Eagle is quickly becoming the home of Art in Eagle. The facility even features a dark room which will come in handy at some point for the club!
The rough outline for now would be as follows:
- Photo Share: Each member would bring in a set number of images. The group would discuss each image in a constructive, non-judgemental manor. The point of the club is to help each other grow and to better learn the craft.
- Tutorial: Each meeting, one member would be responsible for bringing in a tutorial. This would be a brief presentation that would cover technique, or equipment, business practices or anything the member feels would be of educational value to the group.
- Guest Speaker: As the group grows, it will become invaluable to bring in guest speakers to present to the group. This speaker could be anyone who has an interesting story to tell, or background to share, or maybe even someone who has had a rare experience that would be of interest to the group.
Future Plans
Growth of the Camera Club of Eagle will allow for new opportunities for all members.
Field Trips: A member might know of a great scenic location that the group could go photograph. This is a great learning opporunity and perhaps even a chance to try out equipment you’ve never got to use.
Awards: Given enough of a membership, we envision holding an annual awards competition.
Community Outreach: One important aspect of the club will be to offer outreach to youth in the community who may have an interest in photography. The lack of access to equipment or education can hinder someone who may have a genuine interest and talent for the art. A camera club can be a place where someone who might not otherwise get a chance to at least try photography, might get that chance.
That is all for now! If you are interested in joining and helping build a great community resource, please contact me at eric@jackydigital.com or 208-685-2747
